Senator Graham Appreciates World Economic Forum for Revoking Invitation to Zarif in Davos

Following the World Economic Forum's announcement to revoke the invitation to Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, to speak at Davos, Senator Lindsey Graham expressed his happiness with this decision, emphasizing that Araghchi is the "spokesman for a terrorist regime" and should not participate or speak at this conference. In a message posted on the social media platform "X" on Monday, January 29, Graham stated: "On behalf of those around the world seeking freedom from oppression and tyranny, I thank you for your decision not to allow the Iranian Foreign Minister to speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos." He added: "I am very pleased to hear that the Davos officials have realized that the Iranian Foreign Minister - the spokesman for a terrorist regime that kills its own citizens and has blood on its hands from Americans - should not participate or speak at the conference." Praising the Davos group's action, he described the "explicit and uncompromising condemnation of the Nazi religious regime in Iran" as "exactly what the world should offer." The World Economic Forum announced on Monday, January 29, that in response to protests against the invitation to Abbas Araghchi, it had revoked this invitation. The statement from the forum read: The Iranian Foreign Minister will not attend Davos. He was invited last fall, but the tragic killing of defenseless people in Iran over the past few weeks means that the Iranian government should not have a representative at Davos this year. Senator Graham had previously reacted to Araghchi's invitation, addressing the World Economic Forum organizers: "It is clear what you are thinking? ... European elites have lost their moral compass. This is the strongest indication of moral decay so far; a decay among those who enjoy freedom but abandon those who fight for it." Earlier, Hillel Neuer, the executive director of UN Watch, a Geneva-based human rights organization, had written to Abbas Araghchi: "If you step foot in Davos this week for the World Economic Forum, a criminal complaint will be filed with Swiss prosecutors. Your commanding role in the Supreme National Security Council in the mass killing of thousands of protesters constitutes a crime against humanity. Expect arrest, trial, and justice to be served."
