Senior Israeli General: We Conduct Attacks 'Correctly' at 'Very Distant Points'

Herzi Halevi, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, described the country’s airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, located 1800 kilometers from Israel, as 'an action beyond a message.' On Sunday, October 8, during a meeting with several senior military officials, Halevi stated that Israel can reach its enemies at even greater distances. He emphasized, 'We know how to access very distant points' and conduct attacks 'correctly.' He further described the operation, saying, 'This is not a message, but an action.' Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant also dismissed distance as a barrier to Israel's access to attackers, stating on social media platform 'X' that 'the message is very clear; nowhere is too far for us.' Following missile and drone attacks by the Houthi Shiites from Yemen on Israeli cities, the Israeli army announced on Sunday, October 8, that it had targeted positions and objectives of the Houthi militants. According to the Israeli army, the operation targeted several power plants and a port used by the Houthis for 'exporting oil' and 'spreading Iranian weaponry in the region.' Reuters reported, citing two informed sources, that several points, including fuel storage facilities, were targeted in the airstrikes on the port of Hodeidah in Yemen. Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthis, a proxy group of the Islamic Republic, stated that his forces 'will not hesitate to support Lebanon and Hezbollah.' According to United Nations experts, the Houthi militants in Yemen have become a powerful military organization with the help of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its Quds Force, Hezbollah, and Iraqi specialists.
