Severe Injury to Political Prisoner After Beating in General Ward of Iranshahr Prison

Parham Parvari, a political prisoner in the general ward of Iranshahr Prison, was beaten by several inmates, resulting in severe injuries. According to his mother, "his eye has been fractured and stitched six times, and his body has suffered severe burns." According to HRA News, an organization of human rights activists in Iran, Sarveh Soozani, Mr. Parvari's mother, announced on her personal social media page that this political prisoner, who was arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 in Tehran, is being held in the general ward of Iranshahr Prison without the implementation of the principle of separation of crimes. Ms. Soozani wrote, "Due to the negligence of prison officials regarding his place of detention, several inmates have recently beaten Parham during a conflict, causing his eye to fracture and requiring six stitches, and he has also suffered severe burns from being hit with a tea flask." Parham Parvari, born in 1997, was arrested on October 4, 2022, during the crackdown on protests following the death of Mahsa Amini while in the custody of the morality police, and faced charges of "moharebeh" (waging war against God). This political prisoner, in June 2023, after the removal of the charge of moharebeh from his case, faced charges including "gathering and collusion, disturbing public opinion, and defacing license plates" and was sentenced by Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran to "10 years of exile to Jask Prison in Hormozgan Province, and 5 years of imprisonment." This sentence was confirmed by Branch 9 of the Tehran Court of Appeals, and his request for retrial in the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic was rejected. Mr. Parvari has been transferred from Evin Prison to Iranshahr Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan Province since December of last year to serve his sentence of "imprisonment and exile." Reports of the endangerment of political prisoners' lives in the prisons of the Islamic Republic have been reported multiple times. For instance, in July of this year, Mona Bakhtiari, whose brother Pouya was killed in the November 2019 protests, and whose mother Nahid Shirpich and father Manouchehr Bakhtiari have been imprisoned for seeking justice, reported an assassination attempt on Ms. Shirpich in Zanjan Prison and warned that her parents' lives are in danger in the prisons of the Islamic Republic.
