Shiban Prison in Ahvaz Joins the 'No to Execution Tuesdays' Campaign

"No to Execution Tuesdays" campaign, consisting of striking prisoners from over 20 prisons in Iran, announced in a statement on November 1st, during the 39th week of the campaign, that a group of political prisoners in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz has declared their participation in this campaign. The statement mentions that 'simultaneously with the anniversary of the 2021 protests, the anniversary of the martyrs of this movement, and the widespread internal and external crises of the government, we have witnessed an accelerating and widespread increase in executions; over 140 individuals have been hanged just in October of this year.' The campaign added that among this number, 5 were women and also noted that according to published news, nearly 35 individuals have been executed in the past week, with 17 executed on just one day, October 17. The 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign further stated: 'In another repressive action, 4 political prisoners sentenced to death from Arab compatriots in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz have been transferred to solitary confinement for the execution of their sentences, putting their lives in serious danger.' According to the campaign's statement, 'In response to these inhumane sentences, a group of political prisoners in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz announced their joining the campaign.' The 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign condemned the 'systematic executions' by the Islamic Republic government, adding: 'We call on all political, civil, syndical, and human rights activists and all awakened consciences inside and internationally to confront these repressions; today, standing against the issuance and execution of death sentences must be part of the social demand.' The authors of the statement believe that this will not be achieved 'except through resistance, solidarity, and collective will,' and through this, 'we can stop this machine of slaughter and execution and overthrow the foundation of such inhumane sentences in our homeland.' The statement noted that the hunger strike on Tuesday as a protest action by members of this campaign was held on November 1st in these prisons: Evin Prison (women's ward, wards 4 and 8), Qezel Hesar Prison (units 3 and 4), Central Prison of Karaj, Greater Tehran Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Arak Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, Shiraz Prison, Bam Prison, Mashhad Prison, Lakan Prison in Rasht (women's and men's wards), Qaemshahr Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqdeh Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Kamyaran Prison, and Shiban Prison in Ahvaz.
