Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi: We Are Going to Prison to Serve Unjust Sentences

Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi, social activists in Tehran, announced on Thursday, December 21, that they are going to Evin Prison in Tehran to serve their 'unjust' prison sentences. Mr. Ebrahimi and Mr. Ahmadi were sentenced to a total of 9 years in prison by the Tehran Court of Appeals. Siamak Ebrahimi was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison for charges of 'conspiracy and collusion to commit a crime against national security' and 'propaganda against the regime,' with a maximum penalty of five years being enforced under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code. Shahrokh Ahmadi was sentenced to four years in prison for 'conspiracy and collusion to commit a crime against national security.' Additionally, security agents of the Islamic Republic arrested these two social activists in Bahman last year and transferred them to Evin Prison. At that time, officials from Branch 2 of the Evin Prosecutor's Office told the families of Ebrahimi and Ahmadi that their case was 'security-related,' but did not provide further explanation. Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi were released on bail of 700 million tomans after three weeks in Evin Prison. Their initial trial was held on July 17 of this year in Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran. In a joint post on Instagram, Mr. Ebrahimi and Mr. Ahmadi wrote: 'We are two humans among the multitude who rose one day to establish justice and freedom in their country' and added that the 'historic struggle for human liberation' was sacrificed by a power-hungry group that considered itself the owner of the movement. They emphasized that they remain committed to their ideals.
