Iranian expatriates in Austria gather in support of protests in Iran. Informed sources in the EU told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that Mr. Zarif's trip to Brussels is likely, and if it happens, it will be on Thursday or Friday (January 11 or 12). These sources, who wished to remain anonymous, added that this meeting will take place within the framework of discussions regarding the nuclear agreement (JCPOA), but certainly 'other topics' could also be discussed. The White House stated that the U.S. President and his French counterpart discussed the protests in Iran over the phone. The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency rejected the statements of the Attorney General of the Islamic Republic regarding the involvement of this U.S. intelligence agency in the widespread protests in Iran, stating that Iranians have distanced themselves from the Islamic Republic regime. The Ministers of Intelligence and Interior, along with the Deputy Commander of the IRGC, reported to a closed session of parliament regarding the nationwide protests in Iran. However, a representative from Izeh in parliament stated, 'The representatives were not satisfied with these superficial reports.' The Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor stated that 70 of the detainees from the protests have been released after completing investigations and obtaining guarantees. Dozens of student organizations wrote a letter to the Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, demanding the follow-up of the situation of detained students and their unconditional release.
