Sirus Fathi, labor activist, is in detention at the Gilan Intelligence Department and under interrogation

Sirus Fathi, a labor activist detained in Rasht, remains in the detention center of the Gilan Intelligence Department and is under interrogation. According to the "Free Sharifeh Mohammadi Campaign," Mr. Fathi was arrested on June 12 by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. His wife, Sharifeh Mohammadi, who is also a labor activist in Rasht, was arrested on December 5 of last year and has been in temporary detention since then. Mrs. Mohammadi's court hearing was held on June 10 in Rasht, where she was accused of having connections with a political organization. This occurred while her husband, Sirus Fathi, denied the accusation. Based on a report published on June 17, the Ministry of Intelligence has threatened the family members of Sirus Fathi and Sharifeh Mohammadi not to inform others about their situation. Additionally, it is noted that their 12-year-old child, Aydin, is worried about the status of his parents. The Free Sharifeh Mohammadi Campaign reported, citing an informed source, that Aydin Fathi experienced panic and a nervous breakdown when agents violently arrested his father. So far, the Ministry of Intelligence has not released any information regarding the reason for Sirus Fathi's arrest. Since his wife's detention, Mr. Fathi has been pursuing her status and has faced threats from security agents and judicial harassment multiple times. In recent years, as the economic situation of workers and other wage earners has worsened, the Islamic Republic's security and judicial actions against labor activists, teachers, and retirees have intensified. Currently, several labor activists, teachers, and retirees are imprisoned on security charges, while others are released on bail. Among those currently imprisoned are Reza Shahabi, Hassan Saidi, Davood Razavi, Rasoul Badaghi, Reza Aghdasi, Nahid Khodajoo, Anisha Asadollahi, Keyvan Mohtadi, Reyhaneh Ansarinezad, Sarvaneh Ahmadi, Nasrin Javadi, Zeinab Hamrang, Mehran Raouf, and Maziar Seyednejad. Sharifeh Mohammadi's "hard and heavy" hours in prison; a labor organization has called for the release of Shahabi, Saidi, and Razavi. Amnesty International has called for the "immediate and unconditional release" of Reza Shahabi, a imprisoned labor activist. The International Confederation of Trade Unions has stated that union rights are not respected in Iran. Evin prison officials "prevent treatment and the issuance of a non-custodial sentence" for Reza Aghdasi.
