Sit-in by Some Students at Sharif University in Support of Protesting Students at Beheshti University

The second day of the sit-in by students at Beheshti University in protest against the security forces' raid on girls without mandatory hijab in psychology classes expanded on Wednesday, December 1, with support from students at Sharif University in Tehran. According to student union reports on social media, a group of male and female students held placards in support of the Beheshti students' sit-in in front of the entrance to the Computer Science Faculty at Sharif University. Based on published images, the students demanded the release of prisoners and chanted slogans in solidarity with the psychology students at Beheshti University. The protesting female students were not wearing the mandatory hijab required by the Islamic Republic. These protests began following the 'attack by security forces' on the library and classrooms of the psychology faculty at Beheshti University on November 30. On Tuesday, November 29, security personnel and individuals 'with covered faces' confiscated the student IDs of girls whose hijabs had fallen off. The psychology students issued a statement published on the Telegram channel of the 'National Student Unions' describing such actions as causing 'the closure of the educational and research environment of the faculty' and 'reducing understanding and interaction between believers and other members of the academic community.' The statement emphasized that 'all students are responsible for showing solidarity and uniting against such wounds.' According to the Telegram channel 'Amirkabir Newsletter,' security forces also attacked classes in the Faculty of Literature and Humanities at Beheshti University. Recently, the 'Independent Progressive Student Organization' reported that on November 17, a female student at the Soohanak branch of Azad University was attacked by security forces for not adhering to the mandatory hijab. The strike at Beheshti University is a protest against the 'security forces' attack on classes under the pretext of hijab reminders. The ongoing repression of students in Iran continues; attacks under the pretext of 'hijab' and the issuance of bans on education and exile are prevalent. The head of the Social Sciences Faculty at Tehran University defended the 'attack' on students, stating that he would not apologize.
