Six Arrested in London for Assaulting Iranian Asylum Seeker

According to Reuters, British police have arrested four boys and two girls over the age of 20 on charges of assaulting this 17-year-old Iranian asylum seeker. The police stated that eight youths approached this Iranian asylum seeker while he was standing at a bus station in London. The report adds that these eight individuals chased and beat the boy when they realized he was an Iranian asylum seeker. According to the police, the assault ceased when the sound of police sirens was heard and bystanders intervened. However, residents of the Croydon area in London told the Associated Press that those who were beating the boy were far more than eight, and many were just watching. The British police classify this assault as a hate crime. They are currently investigating witnesses and have asked the public to share any information they may have with the relevant authorities. Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, stated on Sunday, April 2, that 'hate crime has no place in London.' The Mayor added, 'London is a diverse and wonderful city. We not only accept our differences but also celebrate them.' Sadiq Khan emphasized, 'Those who sow the seeds of hatred cannot divide our communities. We will not tolerate hate crimes as always.'
