Six Killed in Attack by 'Repeat Offender' in Arak

Authorities from the Central Province Police Command announced that the number of victims from the shooting incident in Arak has reached six. According to Mahmoud Khalaji, the social deputy of the Central Province Police Command, one of the four injured in the shooting on Wednesday in Arak has died due to the severity of the injuries at Vali Asr Hospital. Earlier reports from the Arak police chief indicated that five people were killed and four others injured as a result of the shooting by 'a repeat offender' and his accomplice targeting the family members of a police officer in the city. Based on these reports, armed individuals entered two houses in Arak on Wednesday morning, January 22, and opened fire on the members of these two families. According to Kiumars Azizi, the police chief of Arak, one of the victims was a police officer who was on leave at the time of the incident. Mr. Azizi added that two women and three men were killed, and a teenage boy and three girls were injured. However, Fars News Agency reported that the injured included a 15-year-old boy, two men aged 33 and 35, and a 25-year-old woman. The Arak police chief also stated that one of the killers, who was a 'repeat offender', has been arrested and had 'planned the murders with the help of his brother.' Some news agencies reported that he had recently been released from prison. However, ISNA reported that this individual 'was in prison on murder charges.' The Arak police chief also mentioned that 'investigations are ongoing, and it is unclear whether this individual was on leave from prison, released on bail, or escaped.' Farshid Taheri, the public and revolutionary prosecutor of Arak, stated that 'the motive for the murder was personal revenge.'
