ISNA news agency reported on Wednesday, June 9, that various issues regarding the goalkeeper of last season's Persepolis were discussed in a meeting of the Football Federation's Ethics Committee, including 'inappropriate and unconventional attire' that sparked significant controversy. The agency referred to the problems Persepolis faced in goal, which many fans and veterans of the club believe led to the loss of the championship trophy. Sosha Makani was imprisoned during a critical phase of the league matches, forcing Persepolis to sign Lubanov from Uzbekistan. After his release, Sosha was out of shape and could not assist his team. Meanwhile, the publication of a photo of him at the club's training ground wearing pants that some protesting fans claimed were 'for children' provoked their reactions. Some consider the choice of pants a personal matter. Some football enthusiasts also cite professional football teams around the world where players wear formal or sports tracksuits during training or matches. The Ethics Committee announced that for various reasons, including 'Makani's specific attire reminiscent of the animated character SpongeBob', the former Persepolis goalkeeper has been banned from participating in matches for six months. This ruling is not final, and Makani can appeal to the Appeals Committee. The 'Varzesh 3' website quoted the Ethics Committee of the Iranian Football Federation stating: 'We have invited Makani several times, but he refused to provide an explanation to the federation. The ruling is unrelated to the previous issue that led to his imprisonment. We made this decision due to the way this player dresses and the impact his clothing has on society.' Due to the controversies surrounding him, Sosha Makani lost both his national team jersey and Persepolis decided to end its cooperation with him. Makani has not yet commented on the events that occurred and the ruling issued by the Football Federation's Committee.
