Soheil Arabi's Mother to Seek Justice at Parliament

The mother of Soheil Arabi, a political prisoner, stated in a voice message on social media that she plans to go to the parliament on Monday to ask officials of the legislative branch why the Supreme Leader's pardon for her imprisoned son has not been executed. Farangis Mazloom, in an interview with Radio Farda, expressed her frustration that the judiciary is unresponsive and that she wants to raise the question with the legislative officials about why her son has not been released despite the Supreme Leader's pardon and remains imprisoned. Reports from Iran indicate that several political and ideological prisoners continue their hunger strikes in the Islamic Republic's prisons, and the release of a voice message attributed to Soheil Arabi from prison has kept his situation and that of other political prisoners in the spotlight. In the message attributed to Soheil Arabi, which has circulated on social media, this political prisoner speaks of the injustices and dire conditions he faces in prison. Radio Farda cannot confirm the authenticity of this message, which is said to have been recorded on Friday. According to reports, Soheil Arabi, who was sentenced to death for writing critical content on a social media platform, was later sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and has been incarcerated for four years, with nearly forty days of hunger strike, including the last nine days of dry hunger strike. As a mother, I want you to accompany me; the children who are there, not just my Soheil, but all those who are innocent should be freed. What crime have they committed? For expressing their opinions? I only ask this from the people, said Farangis Mazloom. Amnesty International has expressed concern about Soheil Arabi's situation and called for his immediate and unconditional release, while the Human Rights Defenders Association has stated that judicial officials are preparing for the silent death of political and ideological prisoners by ignoring their legitimate and legal demands. Soheil Arabi, 32, was arrested four years ago after writing critical content on a social media platform and initially faced a death sentence for 'insulting the Prophet.' After his lawyer's objection, the charge of 'corruption on earth' was added to the case, and the death sentence was confirmed. However, with the efforts of his lawyers and family and the acceptance of a request for retrial, another branch of the Supreme Court annulled the death sentence and sent the case to a lower court, which, after removing the charge of insulting the Prophet, sentenced Soheil Arabi to seven and a half years in prison. Soheil Arabi has been imprisoned since November 7, 2013, and has been denied leave.
