Son of an Israeli Cabinet Minister Killed in Gaza War

Israeli media has reported the death of the son of an Israeli emergency cabinet minister in the Gaza war. The Israeli army announced on Thursday that two reserve soldiers were killed in battles in the Gaza Strip, one of whom was 25-year-old Gal Meir Eisenkot, son of Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces. Gadi Eisenkot is currently an observer in the Israeli war cabinet on behalf of Benny Gantz's 'National Unity' party. According to the Times of Israel, Eisenkot received the news of his son's death while visiting the Southern Command headquarters of the Israeli army alongside Gantz. Gal Eisenkot was killed by the explosion of a bomb in a tunnel in northern Gaza. He was transferred in critical condition to a hospital in Israel, where he succumbed to his injuries. The second soldier, Jonathan David Deitch, was 34 years old and was killed in clashes in southern Gaza. With the deaths of these two, the number of Israeli soldiers killed in the ground assault on Gaza has reached 89. Hamas, on October 7, killed at least 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in a terrorist attack on southern Israel and took about 240 hostages, including children, women, and the elderly. In response to this act, Israel launched extensive air, sea, and ground attacks on Gaza with the aim of destroying Hamas. The United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, Israel, and several other countries have listed Hamas as a terrorist organization. The UN Secretary-General has called for Security Council action to stop the war in Gaza. The United States has sanctioned a financial network supporting the Houthis in Yemen.
