Soraya Rezaei's Prison Sentence Converted to Electronic Monitoring with a 1000-Meter Radius

Following the conversion of Mehdi Yarahee's one-year prison sentence to a one-kilometer movement restriction with an electronic bracelet, the judiciary has now issued a similar punishment for Soraya Rezaei, an economic activist. According to Shargh newspaper on Tuesday, March 8, Soraya Rezaei Mahvar, the business development manager of 'Myket', was sentenced by Branch 21 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court to nine months of imprisonment and a two-year ban from cyberspace for 'propagating in favor of groups or organizations opposing the Islamic Republic.' Her sentence has now been converted to a movement restriction with an electronic bracelet. According to the report, Saeed Khalili, Soraya Rezaei's lawyer, stated that her case has been sent to the execution branch and 'the enforceable part of her sentence has been converted to electronic monitoring,' meaning 'an electronic bracelet with a movement radius of one thousand meters.' This conversion of the economic activist's punishment from imprisonment to an electronic bracelet with a one-kilometer radius has been in effect since the first day of March, following the posting of a 'two billion tomans bail.' On Sunday, March 6, Mehdi Yarahee's lawyer also announced that the one-year prison sentence of this protesting singer has been converted to 'electronic monitoring' with 'an electronic bracelet with a movement radius of one thousand meters.' According to Zahra Minoui, Yarahee's sentence has also been executed since the beginning of March with a bail of 15 billion tomans. Soraya Rezaei was arrested last summer after she criticized the Islamic Republic's police force and Ahmadreza Radan in statements published on social media.
