South Korean Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Suspended President

A court in South Korea on Tuesday confirmed an arrest warrant for Yoon Suk-yeol, the country's president, who was impeached and suspended from power following a decision to declare martial law on December 3. On Monday, South Korean investigators submitted a request for the arrest warrant for Yoon due to the temporary declaration of martial law earlier this month. Yoon is facing criminal investigations regarding potential charges of rebellion. The court has refrained from commenting. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol revoked the state of military emergency just hours after its announcement due to opposition from parliament. In a televised speech, he stated his intention to eliminate the aggressive forces supporting North Korea and opposing South Korea. The acting president of South Korea has also faced impeachment, and the opposition has submitted a motion to impeach the acting president. The U.S. welcomed the South Korean president's decision to revoke martial law. Special forces entered parliament during the declaration of martial law.
