South Korean President: Trump said Kim will get everything he wants if North Korea denuclearizes

Moon Jae-in, the President of South Korea, quotes Donald Trump as saying that if Pyongyang denuclearizes, everything promised to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be provided to him. Moon added that during the G20 summit, the U.S. President asked him to convey this message to Kim Jong-un. On December 2, the South Korean President told reporters, "His message was that President Trump has a very friendly view of the First Secretary [of the Workers' Party of North Korea] Kim [Jong-un] and likes him, and hopes that Secretary Kim will implement the remaining agreements made, and in that case, he is ready to fulfill everything Kim [Jong-un] has requested." These remarks came a day after Donald Trump again spoke of a second meeting with Kim Jong-un. The leaders of the U.S. and North Korea met last June in Singapore; a meeting that was historic as it was the first between a sitting U.S. President and the North Korean leader. In Singapore, Trump and Kim agreed to take steps toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. However, since then, challenges and issues have persisted, with reports of North Korea's "concealment" regarding its missile and nuclear facilities and the suspension of the dismantling of some of them. Overall, analysts have raised doubts about Pyongyang's ultimate intentions regarding its nuclear disarmament. North Korea, on the other hand, has not hidden its dissatisfaction with some issues such as the continued state of war readiness - the current ceasefire status - at the border between the two Koreas, ongoing military exercises, and continued sanctions. On Saturday, Donald Trump told reporters that he and Kim Jong-un would likely meet for the second time in early 2019, although he has not yet specified a precise date for this meeting. He also emphasized that he has a "good relationship" with the North Korean leader. The Presidents of South Korea and the U.S. met on Friday in Argentina. According to South Korea's state news agency, during that meeting, the two sides agreed to maintain current sanctions against North Korea until Pyongyang is completely denuclearized. Moon Jae-in stated that some parallel actions might take place until North Korea is fully denuclearized: "Parallel actions do not necessarily mean a reduction or dismantling of sanctions, but may mean a delay or reduction of South Korea-U.S. military exercises, humanitarian aid, and even some non-political visits, such as those by sports and cultural delegations."
