South Korea's Ousted President Leaves Blue House

Following the ruling of South Korea's Constitutional Court to remove the country's president, Park Geun-hye, she left the presidential Blue House on Sunday, March 12. CNN reported, citing a spokesperson for Ms. Park, that she had departed the Blue House and returned to her private residence in southern Seoul. This report coincided with statements from Min Kyung-wook, a member of the South Korean parliament, who said on behalf of Ms. Park to her supporters that she expressed regret for not being able to fulfill her duties as president until the end of her term. In Ms. Park's statement, she said: "I am grateful to those who supported me and believed in me. I accept all these results; although it takes time, I believe the truth will surely come to light." Two days prior, the Constitutional Court of South Korea upheld the parliament's impeachment vote against Park, forcing her to relinquish power and leave the presidential residence. Ms. Park is accused of corruption and abuse of power, charges she denies. This situation has led to severe political tensions in South Korea. Seoul has also been the scene of protests from both opponents and supporters of Park in the past two days, resulting in two deaths during the clashes. In this context, South Korea has called for the suspension of North Korea's membership in the United Nations.
