Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives: Washington showed 'resolve' in response to Iran's attacks on Israel

Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, said on Sunday, April 15, that lawmakers will attempt to pass a financial aid package for Israel this week, although details have not yet been finalized. He told Fox News, 'House Republicans and the Republican Party understand the necessity of standing with Israel. We are gathering the details of the aid package and will try again this week. We are reviewing options and all issues related to supplemental funding.' The Speaker added that he is pleased that the United States has shown 'resolve' in response to the Iranian government's attacks on Israel. He stated, 'I think we showed our determination last night. Many of us were concerned about standing with Israel. Standing with Israel is very critical... We shot down most of those drones and missiles, and our other allies helped in this regard.' Meanwhile, Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader, said the Republican-led House must pass the bipartisan national security aid package that the Senate has approved, which includes financial assistance to Israel, in light of the Iranian government's attacks. He said, 'Given the events tonight, it is clearer than ever that the best way to help Israel is for the House to pass the Senate's supplemental national security budget.' This comes as President Joe Biden's request from the Democratic Party for $95 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel, and other allies has been approved with Senate support but has been stalled for weeks, as Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the House, has not yet allowed a vote on it.
