Special Prosecutor's Report on Discovery of Classified Documents at Biden's Residence and Office; No Formal Charges Against Him

Robert Hur, the special prosecutor investigating the discovery of classified documents at Joe Biden's home and personal office, states that he 'knowingly and intentionally' took these documents, but the investigations over the past year indicate that there was no criminal intent involved, and therefore 'no formal judicial charges' are directed at Mr. Biden. The special prosecutor's investigation began last fall after reports emerged on November 2, 2022, about the finding of several pages of classified documents in Biden's private office in Washington, D.C., and at his personal residence in Wilmington, Delaware. The final report of the special prosecutor's investigation was published on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in 345 pages; the report contains the contents of 173 conversations between Robert Hur and his legal team with 147 witnesses and individuals related to the case, including Joe Biden himself in October 2023. Joe Biden emphasized in a press conference at the White House on Thursday night, broadcast live on television and the internet, that he did not share the classified information with anyone and reiterated that he does not know how those boxes containing classified documents ended up in his garage. The U.S. President stated that in October, during the early days of the international crisis stemming from the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, he had a five-hour face-to-face discussion about this case, as he owes it to the American people and believes it is their right to be informed of the truth as soon as possible. The discovery of these documents has turned into a political liability for Biden and could negatively impact his activities in the upcoming U.S. presidential election – where he and Donald Trump are likely to be the final candidates of the two major political parties in the U.S., the Democratic and Republican parties.
