Speculations Continue Regarding Possible Ceasefire in Lebanon

While the Israeli Foreign Minister stated that diplomatic efforts for an agreement have made 'progress' and Israeli media reported that the cabinet agreed to a ceasefire proposal, a Hezbollah spokesperson announced: 'No ceasefire proposal has been received for Lebanon.' According to Reuters, Mohammad Afif, the head of Hezbollah's media office, said at a press conference in southern Beirut today: 'Based on my information, no official proposal has reached Lebanon and us so far.' This Hezbollah member believes that 'we are still in the stage of presenting initial ideas' and 'nothing real exists yet.' Gideon Sa'ar, the Israeli Foreign Minister, said on Monday that progress has been made in the ceasefire negotiations in Lebanon, but implementing it remains the most critical element. Sa'ar emphasized at a press conference on Monday that 'there is progress' and added, 'The main challenge will be implementing what is agreed upon.' On Sunday, 'Israel Hayom' reported that significant progress has been made in diplomatic negotiations regarding the proposed ceasefire in Lebanon, which would require Hezbollah to withdraw from north of the Litani River and prevent the military presence of this Iran-backed group near the Israeli border, in exchange for the Israeli army returning to the international border. The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Israel's best-selling newspaper, reported on Monday that Israel and Lebanon exchanged drafts through Amos Hochstein, the U.S. envoy, indicating progress in efforts to reach a final agreement. Dozens have been killed in the Israeli attack on Gaza; seven people were killed in Lebanon. Israeli forces continue their attacks in Lebanon; Hezbollah launched 5 rockets. Reports indicate that Saleem Ayyash, a 'member of Hezbollah's assassination squad,' has been killed. The Israeli Foreign Minister called for strengthening relations with the Kurds.
