Spiegel Report on Foiling of Islamic Republic's 'Terrorist Plans' Against Jewish Sites and Institutions in Europe

The news magazine 'Spiegel' reported on Thursday that intelligence agencies in Europe recently thwarted 'terrorist plans' by the Islamic Republic of Iran to attack Jewish sites and institutions in France and Germany. According to the report, the Islamic Republic has resorted to 'organized criminal groups' to target Jewish and Israeli interests in Europe. The Spiegel report adds that a terrorist cell supported by the Islamic Republic managed to carry out four attacks using incendiary materials against Israeli-owned companies in southern France late last year and early this year. Spiegel identified the leader of this criminal gang as a drug trafficker from Lyon. According to the report, one suspect arrested in France had spied on a lawyer representing several Israeli citizens in Berlin in February of this year and had also traveled to Munich twice to spy on an Israeli family. Last month, Spiegel also reported that Mohammad Hadi Moftah, head of the Islamic Center of Hamburg, received direct orders from Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Iranian government. The report stated that one of these orders involved outlining the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7. The publication of Spiegel's report coincided with the killing of a shooting suspect near the Israeli consulate in Munich by German police. Nancy Faeser, the German Interior Minister, stated that after the shooting near the Israeli consulate and the Nazi documentation center in Munich, the protection of Israeli institutions is the highest priority for Germany. She described the shooting as a 'serious incident' and mentioned she is in contact with emergency services but does not want to speculate on the details. The German Interior Minister had warned last month, amid rising tensions in the Middle East and the possibility of a large-scale attack by the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah militants against Israel, about the intensification of crimes against Jews and escalating tensions in the country. In this context, Nancy Faeser had urged German security officials to be more vigilant regarding the country's security measures. In an interview with the German media 'Rheinische Post,' she stated that her country is closely monitoring regional developments and is working to counter any escalation of anti-Jewish behavior in Germany. She emphasized that specific actions would be taken against anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic threats. According to Ms. Faeser, German security officials are particularly attentive to the ongoing developments in the Middle East conflict.
