Start of Hunger Strike by Atefeh Rangriz in Shahroud Prison

Human rights media reported that Atefeh Rangriz, a writer, translator, and women's rights activist imprisoned in Shahroud prison, has begun a wet hunger strike since the morning of Wednesday, October 18. According to Kolbar News, Atefeh Rangriz has gone on hunger strike in protest against her continued illegal detention, the rejection of bail for her release, and her beating in Shahroud prison. In a letter, she stated: "I announce my hunger strike in protest against the illegal rejection of bail that I have faced five times with closed doors and walls, as well as the issuance of unjust sentences and illegal detention in Qarchak prison." This writer and women's rights activist was arrested on May 1, 2019, coinciding with International Workers' Day, during a protest in front of the Islamic Republic's parliament. She was sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison and 74 lashes, but was released five months later due to a pardon. However, she was re-arrested on September 10, 2023, and imprisoned in Shahroud. Atefeh Rangriz, a civil activist, has gone on hunger strike in protest against the unfair handling of her case in prison. A group of parliament representatives wrote a letter to the head of the judiciary regarding the sentences of journalists and civil activists. Atefeh Rangriz, a women's and workers' rights activist, has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison and 74 lashes.
