Statement from 68 Human Rights and Women's Organizations: The Death Sentence of Pakhshan Azizi Must Be Revoked

Nearly 70 human rights and women's organizations have urged the international community to pressure the Iranian government to revoke the death sentence of Pakhshan Azizi, a imprisoned civil activist. In the statement released on Saturday, January 22, they stated: 'We call on the international community, governments, institutions, and women's rights organizations to take immediate action to prevent the execution of Pakhshan Azizi.' The signatories noted that the execution of Ms. Azizi could occur at any moment, writing: 'She has dedicated her life to defending vulnerable women and promoting equality in her community.' Amir Reisiyaan, Pakhshan Azizi's lawyer, also stated that the death sentence of this political prisoner was confirmed in Branch 39 of the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic 'without regard to numerous flaws in the case.'
