Suicide Attack in Central Kabul Leaves at Least Eight Dead

A bomb explosion in the center of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, occurred on Wednesday, resulting in at least eight deaths and 28 injuries. The target of this suicide attack was reported to be a convoy of NATO forces. The explosion took place on Wednesday morning, 13 Ordibehesht, in a sensitive area of Kabul that houses the Presidential Palace, the Ministry of Defense, and the U.S. Embassy. At the time of the explosion, a convoy of international forces stationed in Afghanistan was passing through the area. Reuters reported that the target of this suicide attack was this convoy of foreign military forces. According to Radio Free Europe, citing Najib Danish, spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Interior, most of the casualties from this explosion were civilians. A security source stated that a white Toyota Corolla approached the convoy of armed international forces and exploded. Meanwhile, Bill Selvin, one of the spokespersons for the international forces known as 'Resolute Support,' reported that three American personnel were also injured in this explosion. Mr. Selvin also stated that heavy military vehicles used for the movement of coalition members returned to their bases with minimal damage. However, the explosion caused significant damage to surrounding civilian vehicles. Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, has faced suicide bombings and armed operations by groups like the Taliban for years, resulting in hundreds of Afghan or foreign casualties.
