Suicide of a Protester from Izeh Amid Security Siege by the Islamic Republic

Abol Korkor, a protester from Izeh, committed suicide by gunshot on Saturday, March 9, during a live Instagram broadcast after his residence was besieged by agents of the Islamic Republic. Korkor, who was a protester during the 2022 protests, had been living in hiding for two years. According to HRANA, the news agency of human rights activists in Iran, he stated, 'We will surrender' while his house was surrounded, but the shooting by the agents continued. Users on social media report that his last words were 'Goodbye Iran.' HRANA quoted an informed source stating that Korkor and three of his friends who were with him at home intended to surrender, but security forces shot at them and exploded the house with grenades. Reports mention three other individuals: Hossein Mehri, Reza Abdollazadeh, and Sohrab Ahmadi, who are close to the deceased protester Kamar Tahmasbi from 2023. It is said that after this event, the atmosphere in the city of Izeh became security-oriented and internet access was disrupted. State media confirmed Korkor's suicide and reported the use of tear gas and smoke bombs against those besieged. The Mehr News Agency reported the arrest of Korkor's companions and the 'likelihood of their injury.' Izeh witnessed widespread protests during the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement and suffered many casualties, including Kian Pirfalak, a 9-year-old boy who was killed by direct fire from agents. Pouya Molaei Rad, Kian's maternal cousin, also died during a ceremony held for Kian's birthday at his grave due to gunfire from agents. Mujahid Korkor, a citizen from Izeh, was arrested on December 20, 2022, on charges of 'shooting at citizens during the protests of November 25 in Izeh and killing Kian Pirfalak' and was sentenced to death.
