Sullivan: The U.S., Egypt, Qatar, and Israel have reached an agreement on a temporary ceasefire in Gaza

Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Advisor, stated on Sunday, February 25, that the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Israel have reached a consensus on the general terms of a hostage release agreement and a temporary ceasefire in Gaza. In an interview with CNN, he mentioned that negotiations are still ongoing and that Qatar and Egypt need to conduct indirect talks with Hamas. In another interview, responding to a question about Israel's plan to relocate over a million Palestinian refugees from Rafah to other parts of Gaza, he said that President Joe Biden is not aware of this plan. He pointed out the high population density in this part of Gaza and that all humanitarian aid enters Gaza from this area, stating that from the U.S. perspective, no military operations should be conducted in Rafah without a 'clear and actionable plan' to protect civilians and provide them with food, clothing, and shelter. Jake Sullivan added that the United States has not yet seen such a plan. 'Ukraine can win the war' Jake Sullivan emphasized on Sunday that Ukraine can still win the war against Russia. In an interview with CBS News, which took place one day after the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he called for the passage of President Biden's proposed aid package for Ukraine by the U.S. House of Representatives. He reminded that 'Ukraine has succeeded in achieving one of its deepest goals, which is to prevent its fall to Russia.' According to the White House National Security Advisor, Ukraine's continued success against Putin's army depends on Ukrainian soldiers obtaining the necessary tools, and 'that is why the United States must provide the aid package that received broad bipartisan support in the Senate to Ukraine.' He urged the House of Representatives to act on this aid package. Earlier this month, the U.S. Senate approved a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine, but the House of Representatives has refrained from approving it. Jake Sullivan attributed the recent retreat of Ukrainian forces from the city of Avdiivka to their ammunition shortages and stated that the U.S. and its allies must provide the necessary tools and resources for Ukrainian soldiers to achieve victory against the Russian occupiers.
