Summoning of Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi, Social Activists, for Prison Sentences

Reports received by Voice of America indicate that Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi, social activists in Tehran, have been summoned to serve their prison sentences. A source, who wished to remain anonymous, told Voice of America that the Execution of Sentences Office of the 33rd District Prosecutor's Office has given these two social activists five days to report to Evin Prison. Mr. Ebrahimi and Mr. Ahmadi have been sentenced to a total of 9 years in prison by the Tehran Court of Appeals. Siamak Ebrahimi has been sentenced to five years and eight months in prison for charges of 'gathering and colluding with the intent to commit a crime against national security' and 'propaganda against the regime,' with the maximum penalty of five years being applied according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code. Shahrokh Ahmadi has been sentenced to four years in prison for the same charge of 'gathering and colluding with the intent to commit a crime against national security.' Security agents of the Islamic Republic arrested these two social activists in Bahman of last year and transferred them to Evin Prison. At that time, officials from the second investigative branch of the Evin Prosecutor's Office told the families of Ebrahimi and Ahmadi that their case was 'security-related,' but did not provide further details. Siamak Ebrahimi and Shahrokh Ahmadi were released from Evin Prison three weeks later on a bail of 700 million tomans. Their initial court hearing was held on July 26 of this year in Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran.
