Super Tuesday Elections; Millions of Americans Head to the Polls in 15 States

Millions of Americans in 15 states and the Samoa region will head to the polls on Tuesday, March 6, to participate in the primary elections of the Democratic and Republican parties. This is the largest event for selecting candidates from the Democratic and Republican parties for the U.S. presidential election, known as 'Super Tuesday.' It is expected that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will face each other again in the presidential election in November, with their supporters casting votes in their respective parties. Although the results of Tuesday's elections do not definitively determine Joe Biden and Donald Trump's nominations for their parties in the presidential election, they will be very decisive. Joe Biden has faced opposition in the Democratic primary, while Donald Trump still has a competitor, Nikki Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Trump has defeated Haley in all previous primary contests in various states; however, Haley recently defeated Trump in Washington, D.C., where she became the first woman to win a primary contest for the Republican nomination for the U.S. presidency, securing around 2,000 Republican votes in a city where most voters are Democrats. While Haley is not expected to win any of the 16 elections on Tuesday, polls suggest she might defeat Trump in one or two primary elections. Many states voting on Tuesday allocate all their party votes to the winner of the primary election rather than a proportional share based on the vote count, which would likely favor Trump. Polls indicate that Trump is leading Haley by a significant margin in populous states like Texas and California. The main question is whether Haley will withdraw in favor of Trump if she loses, or continue to compete until the results are definitively clear. While Biden is virtually unopposed in the Democratic primaries, political analysts are watching to see if a significant number of voters in Minnesota will cast blank or 'uncommitted' votes in protest against his unwavering support for Israel in the Gaza conflict. Last week, about 13% of participants in the Democratic primaries in Michigan, where the largest block of Arab Americans live, cast 'uncommitted' votes. Biden will also be in the spotlight on Thursday night when he delivers his annual State of the Union address before Congress and television audiences. He is expected to discuss the economic progress of the United States during his more than three years in office, although polls show that many Americans do not believe he has managed the economy very well.
