Support from Most Democratic Senators for Two-State Solution to Israel-Palestine Conflict

Nearly all of President Joe Biden's Democratic colleagues in the U.S. Senate supported his administration's position on a two-state solution to end the long-standing disputes between Israel and the Palestinians. According to Reuters, 49 out of 51 Democratic senators voted in favor of an amendment on Wednesday that endorses a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East. They believe this solution would lead to peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians, ensuring the survival of Israel as a secure and democratic Jewish state, as well as the establishment of a Palestinian state. Senator Brian Schatz, while introducing this amendment as part of the national security aid bill for Ukraine and Israel, stated, "What will determine the future of Israel and Palestine is whether there is hope for peace, and the two-state solution must be that hope." With the ongoing war in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated he opposes any formation of a Palestinian state that does not guarantee Israel's security, a statement that has raised global concerns. The United States, as Israel's largest supporter, reacted to Netanyahu's position, believing that the two-state solution is the only viable path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the crisis-ridden Middle East. Netanyahu reiterated his opposition to the two-state solution and any Palestinian sovereignty over Gaza after the war with the militant group Hamas, one day after his recent phone call with Joe Biden.
