Supreme Court Rejects Reinstatement of Davood Rezavi's Case for the Second Time

The Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company reported on Friday, August 12, that the Supreme Court of the country has rejected the reinstatement of Davood Rezavi, a imprisoned member of this labor organization, for the second time. The syndicate stated that 'the judges of the Revolutionary Courts, without studying the case file and the defenses of the lawyer and the accused, merely relied on a process filled with lies and the opinions of interrogators, and based on what the interrogator and the Ministry of Intelligence ordered, issued a verdict.' According to the statement from this labor organization, 'the court has worked exactly in this manner and rejected the reinstatement of Davood Rezavi without studying the case and based on the orders of intelligence forces, while according to existing laws, the judge is obliged to issue the least amount of legal punishment.' The Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, referring to the 'aspects and legal deficiencies' in Mr. Rezavi's case, added: 'The main question is why Davood Rezavi, as a worker and a member of the board of a labor syndicate, who has been pursuing housing, job security, and workers' wages, which according to the International Labor Organization's conventions and even their own existing laws is not considered a crime, should be completely unjustly imprisoned for the past two years without a day of leave, and despite multiple illnesses, remain in prison for another three years.' This syndicate emphasized that 'all this oppression and anti-worker behavior is unforgivable.' Davood Rezavi, along with Reza Shahabi and Hassan Saeedi, two other members of the Syndicate of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, were arrested in 2022 and sentenced to prison on security charges. This action faced severe criticism from labor unions worldwide. With the expansion of protests by workers and other wage earners, the Islamic Republic has intensified security and judicial actions against labor and guild activists. However, these actions have not prevented the continuation of guild protests in Iran.
