Suspect Supporting 'Islamic State' Intended to Carry Out Suicide Attack at Taylor Swift Concert in Austria

Austrian officials said on Thursday that a teenage citizen of Austria, who was arrested on suspicion of plotting an attack on the concert of American singer Taylor Swift in Vienna, intended to carry out a suicide attack. According to Reuters, officials stated that the attack could have resulted in a 'bloodbath.' Austrian authorities reported that the 19-year-old male suspect had pledged allegiance to the 'Islamic State' (ISIS). Franz Ruf, head of the public security department at Austria's Ministry of the Interior, said at a press conference that the suspect, who has roots in North Macedonia, confessed fully while in custody. Ruf added that he had pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS online and had chemicals, a machete, and technical equipment at his home in the town of Trencin to prepare for the attack. Other officials stated that the suspect was planning a deadly attack among 20,000 'Swifties' who were expected to attend his concert. Two other young Austrians, aged 17 and 15, were reported to have been arrested on Wednesday for the same conspiracy. Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna were canceled following the arrest of the 19-year-old suspect.
