Suspicious Object Believed to be Explosive Discovered Near Israeli Company in Sweden

Swedish police have reported the discovery of an object suspected to be explosive outside the building of an Israeli military technology company in Gothenburg, which is likely aimed at this company. In a statement released on Tuesday, June 5, it was noted that the object was found early Monday morning outside the building of the Israeli company 'Elbit Systems', a manufacturer of unmanned aerial systems. Police cordoned off the area for several hours, and then bomb disposal units arrived to collect and remove the object without incident. A spokesperson for the Gothenburg police told AFP, 'It is not unlikely that the target was this Israeli company. Currently, we do not rule out any possibilities.' He added that no one has been arrested in connection with this matter, and investigations regarding the object are ongoing. Swedish police announced that investigations into 'actions aimed at endangering people's lives through destruction' have begun. Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on October 7 last year, several incidents targeting Israeli interests have been reported in Sweden. The Swedish Security Service, SAPO, announced last week that the Islamic Republic is hiring members of criminal gangs in the country to carry out 'violent actions' against Israeli interests and other targets on Swedish soil. The Iranian government has denied these accusations and summoned the Swedish ambassador to the Foreign Ministry. In late May, following reports of gunfire around the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, the Swedish government heightened security measures to protect Israeli interests and citizens. In February, Swedish police also found a grenade in the vicinity of the Israeli embassy, which the Israeli ambassador at the time stated was evidence of an attempt to attack the building. The Swedish government claims that since the start of the war in Gaza, anti-Semitic crimes in the country have increased. The war in Gaza began with Israel's response to a surprise attack by Hamas militants and other Palestinian groups on its territory on October 7. According to Israeli government statistics, around 1,200 Israelis, most of whom were civilians, were killed in the attacks on October 7, and about 240 were taken hostage. The Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas, reports that over 36,500 Palestinians, most of whom were civilians, have been killed since the onset of Israeli attacks.
