Swedish Prime Minister Calls for Recognition of the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization

On Sunday, the Prime Minister of Sweden stated that his country is urging the European Union to officially designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization following several attacks on Israeli targets in Sweden. According to AFP, Ulf Kristersson called for serious attention to the IRGC's destructive role in current developments in the Middle East and its escalating actions in Europe, including Sweden. Three attacks on the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, occurred last year, and two other attacks against an Israeli military technology company in the city have been reported in the past six months. The Swedish Security Service, SAPO, previously accused the Iranian government of hiring members of Swedish criminal gangs to carry out 'violent actions' against Israeli interests in the country; a claim that Tehran denies. In May, a Swedish newspaper, citing documents from Israeli intelligence, reported that Rava Majid, head of the Swedish criminal network Foxtrot, and Ismail Abdo, head of the Rumba gang, were both hired by the Iranian government. There is a possibility of the Islamic Republic's involvement in recent attacks on Israeli embassies in Denmark and Sweden. Sweden accused the Iranian government of hacking the messaging service following the incident of burning the Quran. A former hostage of the Islamic Republic protested to the Swedish government, stating that the neglect of Ahmadreza Jalali in the exchange of Hamid Nouri was a 'deep deception.' The wife of Ahmadreza Jalali, a dual-national prisoner sentenced to death, described her meeting with the Swedish Foreign Minister as 'very disappointing.'
