Swedish Trade Union Platform Announces Priorities: Fighting Reactionary Laws in Iran

The Swedish Trade Union Platform announced in a statement sent to Voice of America that its priorities include fighting against reactionary hijab laws, creating international solidarity among trade unions, and closer cooperation with the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran. The platform emphasized: "The regime, in an effort to regain control and suppress active forces in the 'Women, Life, Freedom' uprising, is trying to instill fear and terror in society, especially among women, through the introduction of a mandatory hijab bill, chemical attacks on girls' schools, and the escalation of executions, torture, and sexual assault against protesters." The Swedish Trade Union Platform described the hijab bill as the "Achilles' heel" of the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding: "The revolutionary uprising of 'Women, Life, Freedom' will undoubtedly break down the prison doors of the regime, but the overthrow of the regime and breaking down prison doors depend on the unity of all democratic and progressive forces and the establishment of nationwide organizations for workers and teachers." The platform also called for an immediate end to "executions, torture of political prisoners, workers, teachers, and civil activists," the unconditional and immediate release of all imprisoned fighters, and the full implementation of ILO Conventions 87 and 98 and the 23rd Convention of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.
