Switzerland Reports Dozens of Countries Registered for Ukraine Peace Summit

Viola Amherd, the President of Switzerland, announced on Wednesday, May 15, that dozens of countries around the world are ready to participate in the Ukraine peace summit. This summit will be held next month in Switzerland, and Bern hopes it will initiate a process towards achieving peace in Ukraine. According to the Swiss President, the country has received over 50 requests from neutral countries to participate in this summit. Amherd stated during a joint press conference with Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany in Berlin, that her government is striving to hold an inclusive meeting, but China has not yet expressed readiness to participate. Amherd, who accepted the hosting of the peace summit at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, mentioned that countries from South America, Africa, and the Middle East are among those traveling to Switzerland for this summit. Russia has not been invited to this peace meeting. Diplomats and foreign policy experts say that these negotiations, which will take place near the city of Lucerne, are likely to focus on creating an agreement on how to mitigate the risks arising from Moscow's aggression towards Ukraine. According to the Swiss President, half of the countries that have expressed their readiness to participate in this summit are non-European, and the number of participants is expected to increase in the coming days.
