Syria Reports Israeli Fighter Jets Attacked Two Locations Near Damascus

Syrian state media reported on Sunday, December 7, that Israeli fighter jets conducted airstrikes on two locations in the suburbs of Damascus and near the border with Lebanon. According to Reuters, an Israeli army spokesperson stated that they do not comment on 'foreign reports' in response to inquiries about the incident. The report indicates that Israel has previously targeted areas believed to be sites for missile or Syrian weapon storage since the onset of the Syrian civil war. These attacks are said to aim at preventing the transfer of advanced weapons from Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Syrian state television reported that Israel attacked two sites near Damascus International Airport and the town of Dimas in northwestern Damascus on Sunday, but there were no casualties. The Dimas military base is located near Damascus. Meanwhile, residents of Damascus reported hearing loud explosions. Political activists and opponents of Bashar al-Assad's regime have also shared videos on social media purportedly showing the aftermath of these bombings. A Syrian general told the state television that these attacks caused financial damage. Syrian state television claims these attacks benefit extremist factions and al-Qaeda. The official Syrian news agency SANA described the Israeli airstrikes as a blatant violation of Syrian territory. Lebanese news outlets also reported that Israeli jets entered Lebanese airspace. A citizen in Qudsiyah, a suburb of Damascus, told Reuters that an airport designated for agricultural activities in the area was targeted.
