Taghi Karrubi: The Ministry of Intelligence of the Moderation Government Fabricated a Case Against My Brother

The six-month prison sentence for Mohammad Hossein Karrubi, the son of Mehdi Karrubi, was communicated to him on the morning of Tuesday, March 13. According to Saham News, this sentence was issued by Judge Moghiseh, head of Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court, due to the publication of a letter from Mehdi Karrubi addressed to Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran. Seven months after the publication of Mehdi Karrubi's letter, Mohammad Hossein Karrubi was summoned to the Revolutionary Court and, after four interrogation sessions, was accused of propaganda against the regime based on an indictment prepared by the Ministry of Intelligence and submitted to the court. Mohammad Taghi Karrubi, another son of Mehdi Karrubi, stated in an interview with Radio Farda, 'The government of Hassan Rouhani, which was the recipient of this letter, not only did not respond to it but the Ministry of Intelligence of the 'Moderation Government' was seeking to fabricate a case regarding this issue and prepared a 'very, very harsh' indictment.' Mr. Rouhani had made promises during his electoral campaign to lift the house arrest of Mehdi Karrubi, Mir Hossein Mousavi, and Zahra Rahnavard. For instance, on May 13, 2013, at Sharif University of Technology, he responded to a question about lifting the house arrest of these individuals by saying, 'In my opinion, there is no problem, and it is possible to create conditions in the country within a year that not only those who are under house arrest can be freed, but also those who are in prison because of the events of 2009 can be released.'
