According to CNN, on the eve of Earth Day, April 22, NASA has invited people to symbolically take care of one of the 64,000 sections into which it has divided the map of the Earth. Each of these sections is 55 miles, approximately 89 kilometers, wide and will be randomly assigned to those who register on NASA's website. This 89 kilometers could pass through the streets of Manhattan, or the Taj Mahal in India, or it could be an icy land in Alaska or a piece of the Atlantic Ocean. In a statement released on NASA's website for this occasion, it is mentioned that while NASA has many programs for exploring and studying other planets in the solar system and beyond, its most extensive programs are for studying and examining our own planet, Earth, and the living conditions in its corners. 'NASA studies Earth in various ways: from the air we breathe to the rain and snow that provide water for agriculture and people; natural disasters like drought and floods, as well as the oceans that cover seventy percent of the Earth's surface and are a primary source of sustenance for many people around the globe.' The goal of the symbolic land stewardship program is to raise awareness about the geographical characteristics and scientific information related to each of these pieces among different individuals. NASA has announced that its aim is to assign all 64,000 areas to various individuals around the globe on April 22. Various geographical information, including air concentration, temperature, humidity levels, water and soil pollution, vegetation cover, etc., related to each of these 64,000 points, will be mentioned in the symbolic stewardship document given to individuals.
