Taliban Militants Attack Foreign Tourists in Herat Province

Taliban militants in Herat province of Afghanistan attacked a group of foreign tourists on Thursday, August 5, injuring at least six people. According to AFP, this attack occurred while a group of Afghan soldiers was protecting the tourists. Najeebullah Najibi, a spokesman for the Afghan army, stated that five tourists and their driver were injured in the attack. The report indicates that the nationality of the tourists has not yet been disclosed, but they were traveling from Bamiyan province to Herat when they encountered this assault in the Gash Sharif area of Herat. Although the Taliban has not officially claimed responsibility for the attack, Afghan officials attribute it to the group. Meanwhile, Taliban attacks have significantly increased in recent days, especially after Ramadan. One of the latest attacks by this group occurred on Monday in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, where a truck filled with explosives exploded near a hotel that primarily accommodates foreign contractors. This explosion was accompanied by gunfire and grenade throwing, ultimately resulting in the death of all attackers after a seven-hour standoff between the assailants and Afghan security forces. In this context, a suicide bombing in Kabul left dozens dead and wounded, prompting a day of public mourning and a 10-day ban on gatherings following the suicide attack. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the truck explosion in Kabul.
