Taraneh Alidoosti's Lawyer: Doctors Diagnose Her Illness as 'A Drug Interaction'

Following concerns for Taraneh Alidoosti due to an unknown illness after her release from prison, the lawyer for this prominent actress states that doctors have diagnosed her condition as 'a drug interaction.' Zahra Minoui, Taraneh Alidoosti's lawyer, announced on Wednesday, April 24, on the social media platform X that although her client's desire to inform about her health status relates to the 'personal and private' domain of this actress, she provided a brief explanation to 'alleviate concerns' about it. This lawyer stated that Taraneh Alidoosti has been suffering from 'DRESS syndrome' since August 2023, and 'doctors have identified the cause as a drug interaction.' According to Zahra Minoui, her client is now 'on the path to relative recovery after undergoing long treatment periods.' DRESS syndrome, which stands for 'Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms,' is associated with widespread skin inflammation and swelling, fever, blood abnormalities, and involvement of various organs. According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the condition 'DRESS' can occur weeks after drug use and even after discontinuation, with a mortality rate associated with this disease 'between five to ten percent.' In recent days, Taraneh Alidoosti's mother, in a live connection with her audience on Instagram, reported that this prominent Iranian artist has an 'unknown illness' whose 'origin is unclear' and asked everyone to 'send her love and pray for her.' Naderah Hakim-Elahi, Taraneh Alidoosti's mother, said on Sunday, April 2, during a live program on Instagram: 'Taraneh is okay, but she hasn't been well; the illness is severe, especially since its origin is unclear. I was worried, but I have come out of worry. Send her love and pray for her.' This critical actress, who openly supported protesters during the widespread protests of 2022 and removed her mandatory hijab, was arrested on December 17 of that year and was temporarily released on bail of one billion tomans after three weeks. Her lawyer has now stated that Taraneh Alidoosti has been suffering from this illness since August 2023. Following reports of this well-known actress potentially contracting the mentioned illness in prison, Dr. Mohammad Kazem Attari, a physician and social medical researcher, told Voice of America that the Islamic Republic has used substances or administered poisons in prisons in previous years that have caused cancer or organ failure in some prisoners, and since these substances were traceable in the body, this practice changed to using materials that 'made prisoners lose control' and forced them into 'involuntary reactions, including confessing against themselves.' According to this expert, the Islamic Republic currently uses routine medications and food 'inappropriately,' leading prisoners towards 'nervous reactions.'
