Taraneh Alidoosti's National ID Blocked 'Selectively'

Taraneh Alidoosti's lawyer confirmed the flight ban for this well-known actress and supporter of the nationwide protests of 2022, stating that her client has also been barred from transactions. According to Alidoosti's lawyer, Zahra Minuyi, 'such punishments and social restrictions lack legal and judicial basis' and it is unclear which entity has issued this limitation. In an interview with Aftab News published on Sunday, January 9, she discussed the flight ban for the prominent cinema figure, stating that 'such prohibitions' are 'baseless' under criminal law. She added that Alidoosti has also been 'prohibited from transactions' since 2022. Minuyi mentioned that Alidoosti intended to travel domestically due to her illness and the polluted air in Tehran, but 'so far this possibility' has not been provided for her. Minuyi also explained that if Alidoosti visits any official document office, this prohibition is evident in the system and can be verified. The lawyer noted that she recently became aware of the flight ban for her client, saying: 'Ms. Alidoosti intended to travel domestically, and the travel agency announced that we cannot issue a ticket for your national ID, as this issue was very strange, we initially thought it might be a system error and visited several other travel agencies, facing the same response.' According to Minuyi, Alidoosti's national ID has been 'selectively blocked for certain services like flights' as she 'has access to her bank accounts.' This legal expert also stated that 'blocking a national ID was among the measures applied to some financial convicts who could not be accessed, which does not apply to Ms. Alidoosti. Judicial officials have also recognized the blocking of national IDs as contrary to citizen rights and declared it prohibited.' Alidoosti's lawyer added that she has followed up through the Culture and Media Prosecutor's Office to clarify 'exactly what happened and which entity issued such an order,' but judicial authorities have said they 'have not been able to determine which entity imposed such a restriction and no specific entity has taken responsibility for this action.' According to Zahra Minuyi, Taraneh Alidoosti 'has no open case that is in the execution stage' and 'only has one case in the appeal stage that has not reached a definitive ruling.' Taraneh Alidoosti, a global figure in Iranian cinema, was arrested after removing her mandatory hijab in protest against the killing of Mahsa Amini while in custody of the morality police and her participation in the nationwide protests of 2022. Months after this filmmaker's release from prison, her mother reported that she had developed a lesser-known illness, and her lawyer stated that doctors diagnosed the cause of her illness as 'drug interaction.' Meanwhile, several protesters arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 suspiciously died shortly after their release from prison. One of them, Maryam Arvin, a lawyer who defended several arrested protesters, was reported by her mother to have died due to 'IV connection' in prison.
