Tataloo's Lawyer: We Are Waiting for the Court's Verdict

Majid Naghi, the lawyer of Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known as Tataloo, stated on Wednesday, December 26, regarding the news about the violation of this singer's sentence by the Supreme Court, that it is an old news that "was violated a few months ago." The lawyer referred to the news related to the overturning of his client's five-year prison sentence by the Supreme Court. Majid Naghi mentioned that they had also presented their defense during a court session last week and are now waiting for the verdict. According to him, the session was about the charge of 'insulting the Prophet,' which had a dispute between the Supreme Court and the branch, leading to a retrial, and currently, nothing has been proven in this regard. The lawyer's statements were released at a time when Asghar Jahangir, the spokesman for the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, stated in October of this year that Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo was sentenced to five years in prison for 'insulting sacred values' and ten years in another case for 'encouraging corruption and prostitution.' Following this, the prosecutor's office appealed the verdict, and the case was sent to the Supreme Court. In response to this appeal, according to the ruling of the Supreme Court, the prosecutor's objection was accepted, and the five-year prison sentence was overturned. According to Article 262 of the Islamic Penal Code, anyone who insults or slanders the prophets is guilty of 'insulting the Prophet' and is sentenced to death. Tataloo was arrested in Turkey on December 6, 2023, following a complaint from the Iranian consulate in Istanbul and was handed over to Iranian authorities. Born in 1987 in Tehran, Tataloo is considered one of the first underground singers in Iran who gained fame in the 2000s. This singer is regarded as one of the most controversial Iranian artists due to his numerous tattoos, unconventional appearance, and the controversial content of his songs, videos, and social media posts. Tataloo's support for Ebrahim Raisi during his presidential campaign in 2017 and the release of a video of their meeting received widespread attention on social media.
