Tattooed Singer Tataloo Sentenced to Imprisonment

Media affiliated with the judiciary and the lawyer of Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known as Tataloo, have reported his sentencing to imprisonment, but the extent of the punishment has not been disclosed. Elham Rahimifar, Tataloo's lawyer, stated without providing details to ISNA that based on the issued ruling, her client has been sentenced to both "short and long-term" imprisonment, which is subject to appeal. The examination of Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo's charges took place over three court sessions presided over by Judge Afshari. Tataloo's lawyer claimed that "hostile governments" have laid out a "red carpet" for individuals like him. Although media and Tataloo's lawyer have not provided details regarding the nature and extent of the punishment for this underground singer, the Mizan news agency, affiliated with the judiciary, reported that he was sentenced to three years in prison for an old case of "insulting the sacred." Mizan also noted that during the proceedings, no individual or individuals filed a private complaint against him, and no case was formed under the title of a private complainant. This comes despite previous claims by Mizan that "multiple complaints" had been registered against this singer, some of which involved "teenagers under 18 and their families." The judiciary media also stated that Tataloo is facing other charges, but did not specify the details of these allegations. "Obscene productions and operating a gambling house" have been declared as charges against Tataloo. His trial began on March 14, concerning accusations of promoting "prostitution" and disseminating "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran" and publishing "obscene content." The investigator of Tataloo's case, in March 2023, referred to the singer's expression of "regret," stating that he has "written a letter of repentance, wants to marry, and have children," and intends to continue music in a "proper manner." Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known for his numerous tattoos and for blending rap, pop, and R&B styles, is one of Iran's controversial singers. When the nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers was collapsing, he released a song in support of Iran's nuclear program. Tataloo also appeared on a television program in 2017 and was introduced as one of the supporters of Ebrahim Raisi, the current president of Iran. Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, 36, had been living in Istanbul since 2018 but was handed over to Iran by Turkish police in December 2023. He has been in custody in Iran since then.
