Ted Cruz Did Not Endorse Trump: 'Vote According to Your Conscience'

Ted Cruz, Donald Trump's main rival in the Republican primary, has refrained from directly endorsing Trump's candidacy and urged voters to 'refer to their conscience' when choosing the next President of the United States. Reuters reports that attendees at the Republican National Convention, which began two days ago and will continue for four days, cheered Cruz as he took the stage. However, when it became clear that he would not directly support Trump, the cheers from Trump's supporters turned into boos. Amidst the noise and Cruz's speech, Donald Trump himself entered the venue and reportedly went to his family members. He also raised his thumb during Cruz's remarks, which some American media outlets found to be an odd situation. Cruz stated during his speech, 'If you love this land and love your children, which I know you do, stand up, make your voice heard, and vote according to your conscience... for the candidate you believe will defend our freedom and uphold the Constitution.' At this moment, the noise increased. Cruz remarked, 'I like the enthusiasm of the New York delegation.' ABC reported that the New York delegation was chanting, 'Support Trump, support Trump.' Ultimately, Cruz did not say a word in this regard. During the primary competition, Cruz and Trump exchanged harsh words against each other. Other influential Republicans who have not yet endorsed Trump include John Kasich, another primary rival, as well as members of the Bush family who did not even attend the Republican National Convention. One day before Cruz's remarks, Donald Trump was officially introduced as the Republican Party's nominee. His likely opponent will be Hillary Clinton from the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party's convention to introduce the final nominee will take place after the Republican gathering.
