Tehran Criminal Court Summons Ismail Gerami, Labor Activist

The Criminal Court Branch 2 of the Qods Judicial Complex in Tehran has summoned Ismail Gerami, a labor activist. According to Telegram channels for retirees, the issued summons includes the charge of 'disturbing public order and tranquility by organizing illegal gatherings under the pretext of a retirees' gathering from the Social Security Organization.' Typically, the security and judicial apparatus of the Islamic Republic condemns labor activists, teachers, and retirees to prison and other punishments by imposing security charges. These actions have faced widespread criticism from labor and professional unions around the world. Branch 1027 of the Criminal Court has mandated Ismail Gerami to appear in court on July 6. The Islamic Revolutionary Court of District 33 in Tehran had also summoned this retired worker in mid-May of this year and informed him of the charge of 'disturbing public order by participating in illegal gatherings.' Ismail Gerami was released after the court with a bail of 500 million tomans. This labor rights activist has been arrested and imprisoned in recent years due to his union activities. In recent months, he has repeatedly criticized the policies of the Islamic Republic regarding workers and retirees in notes published on the Telegram channels of professional organizations.
