Tehran Prosecutor's Office Reports Arrest of Two Female Football Spectators

The Judiciary of the Islamic Republic has announced that a "legal case" has been formed against two female spectators who allegedly committed "inappropriate actions" during a recent match between Persepolis and Tractor, leading to their arrest. According to official news agencies in Iran, the Judiciary stated that these two individuals, whose identities have not been disclosed, were detained due to what judicial authorities described as "inappropriate and contrary to norms and decorum" actions. The report claims that the behavior of "some female spectators" had negative repercussions "in cyberspace and social media," which prompted the formation of a case against them. It appears from the published news that these two citizens were recently identified and arrested several days after the match. During the match between the football teams Persepolis and Tractor, which took place last week and ended with a 2-0 victory for Persepolis, there were significant disturbances in the stands, with chants from spectators against players of both teams causing tensions. According to media reports, the spokesperson for Tehran's Emergency Organization stated in an interview with Tasnim on February 7 that 32 people were injured during this match at Azadi Stadium, including 3 women. The report indicated that three of these individuals (male) were apparently injured due to stone-throwing and were transferred by emergency ambulances to Shahid Fayyazbakhsh and Soleimani hospitals, suffering serious injuries. The numerous disturbances during the Persepolis and Tractor match and the injury of 32 people included fans climbing over the walls of Azadi Stadium for the Persepolis and Tractor match and the breaking of the parking entrance of Azadi Stadium by "Tractor fans."
