Temperature in Zahedan Sets Record After 69 Years

The temperature in Zahedan has exceeded 43.4 degrees Celsius, setting a record after 69 years. Iranian media reported this news on Friday, July 2, citing a meteorological expert from Sistan and Baluchestan province. According to Tasnim News Agency, Reza Azadmanesh announced the recording of 43.4 degrees Celsius in Zahedan after a gap of 69 years. The temperature reached this level before noon today. The last time a temperature of 43 degrees was recorded in this area was on July 2, 1948. Iran's news network also quoted this expert as saying that it is expected that "the maximum temperature today in Zahedan will reach 44 degrees, setting a new record." He stated that the temperatures recorded by meteorological stations in various parts of the province indicate that today’s temperatures in most cities have been above 40 degrees Celsius. In the past 24 hours, Zahedan and Khash were jointly the coldest with a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, while Zabol, Hamun, and Delgan were jointly the hottest cities in Sistan and Baluchestan with a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius. On June 19, Iranian media reported, citing the director of the emergency medical center of Iran's Medical Sciences University, the deaths of two 13-year-old teenagers in Sistan and Baluchestan due to "extreme heat and thirst." According to Mahmoudreza Nasih, the vehicle of five teenagers from "Maskutan" who had gone to the "Jalgeh" area of "Chah Jangi Khan" village on June 17 broke down on the way back, and three of them decided to walk towards their home. Two of the group "died on the way back due to the extreme heat and severe thirst, and another who was found with the help of locals was transferred to Maskutan medical center." Meteorological experts in Sistan and Baluchestan had previously warned of a significant increase in temperatures in the coming days. Earlier in June, several Sunni Friday prayer leaders urged the government to reduce electricity tariffs due to the extreme heat in Sistan and Baluchestan. Among them, Molavi Abdolhamid Ismailzahi, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, while making this request, asked officials to address the "shortcomings" in electricity in this province and added that "if people do not shout and complain, it does not mean they do not have complaints."
