Temporary Detention of Ahvaz Teacher Continues Despite 'Completion of Investigations'

Lawyer Aman Jalalinezad announced that this imprisoned teacher remains in custody despite the 'completion of the case investigations and the issuance of an indictment.' Farzaneh Zilabi, a lawyer, stated on Tuesday, January 1, that Aman Jalalinezad has been in detention since April of this year, and while 'the case was referred to the Fourth Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz a month ago after the issuance of the indictment, it remains unresolved due to the absence of a judge, and no effective action is being taken regarding its review.' Ms. Zilabi emphasized the necessity of his release to care for his elderly and sick parents, noting that 'the charges against Aman Jalalinezad lack credible evidence and are based on weak grounds,' and that 'the situation of this imprisoned teacher is becoming increasingly critical.' According to Emtead news, although Mr. Jalalinezad's lawyers have 'repeatedly requested the lifting of the temporary detention order, no response has been received so far, and the case remains in absolute limbo.' Previously, the Coordinating Council of Teachers' Trade Unions in Iran reported that Aman Jalalinezad was sentenced to three years and six months in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz. Pressure on teachers' union activists by the intelligence and judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic has intensified in recent years. In this context, Ahmad Derakhshan, a teacher in Karaj, has faced a one-year prison sentence and social restrictions such as being barred from teaching. The nationwide teachers' union has also emphasized that the repression of teachers by government officials in Iran continues. Additionally, officials of the Islamic Republic have imprisoned Mohammad Hossein Sepahri, a high school physics teacher and opponent of the regime, and dismissed him from the education system, cutting off his salary and benefits. The Administrative Justice Court has confirmed the dismissal of Mohammad Hossein Sepahri from the education system. A teacher told members of parliament: 'Sit on the hard chair, make the law easy.' The situation of the exiled protesting teacher is also critical. Ismail Abdi has been banned from leaving the country due to 'case-making by the IRGC' against union activists.
