The 35mm Mirrorless Camera 'Lumix' Has Also Entered the Market

Continuing the new wave of full-frame mirrorless cameras in the photography world, Panasonic has now introduced its 35mm (full-frame) mirrorless camera under the Lumix brand, following Leica, Sony, Nikon, and Canon. The new Panasonic camera has been developed in collaboration with Leica and Sigma under the Lumix brand. These three companies intend to collaborate on this new series of cameras, with the lenses created under this alliance being compatible with each partner's cameras. The new Lumix series cameras are named S1 and S1R. Lumix is a pioneer in the mirrorless camera market globally. However, this company produces its mirrorless cameras with a micro four-thirds sensor, which has an area nearly half that of 35mm sensors. This approach allows for weight reduction and cost savings while enabling high-quality filming in a compact size. However, this method also has drawbacks, such as lower quality photos in low light compared to 35mm cameras and a depth of field that is not comparable to 35mm cameras. Therefore, Lumix cameras are more suited for filming than photography, which is why they are popular among various filmmakers. However, the introduction of Sony's Alpha 7 series cameras changed the market. These cameras, with 35mm sensors, provide good filming capabilities and compete with Canon and Nikon's DSLR cameras in photography. It seems Panasonic aims to challenge major camera manufacturers with its new product. Therefore, it has introduced higher quality at a lower price in its S series cameras. Several features have also been introduced for the first time in these cameras, including a method for significantly increasing megapixels and a six-axis image stabilizer. The new Lumix cameras feature an electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 5.76 million dots. Lumix has also, for the first time, utilized artificial intelligence for autofocus. The AI in this camera can recognize humans, animals, and objects and decide which subject should be focused on. The AI can even distinguish different body parts and focus on the most important ones, such as the eyes. Panasonic has employed a contrast detection focus system (DFD) with 225 focus points in both of its new cameras. The Lumix S1R uses a 47.3-megapixel full-frame sensor with a maximum sensitivity of 25600. Using a new feature in photography called High Resolution, it can capture 187-megapixel photos. This feature is useful for industrial photographers and for taking pictures of static objects with the camera on a tripod. In this mode, the camera moves the sensor and captures eight images to achieve this quality. Photos taken with the S series are more developed for photography capabilities, but in filming mode, it can shoot at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution with a crop. However, the image quality is eight-bit. Panasonic has developed the S1 camera for those who focus on filmmaking alongside photography. This camera is equipped with a 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor with a maximum sensitivity of 51200. It can film in 10-bit 422 mode at 60 frames per second without cropping. This quality is suitable for industrial and cinematic film projects. The price of the S1R is $3,699, and the price of the S1 is $2,499. Previously, Nikon with its Z series cameras and Canon with its R series cameras had entered the competition in the field of 35mm mirrorless cameras.
