The Attacker at the Berlin Holocaust Memorial is a 19-Year-Old Syrian Migrant

Berlin prosecutors announced on Saturday, February 23, that the perpetrator of the knife attack at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is a 19-year-old Syrian migrant. According to the statement, it appears that the reason for choosing the memorial for the attack was the assailant's weeks-long planning to target Jews. Berlin police arrested the attacker while he was covered in blood. The victim of this attack is a 30-year-old Spanish tourist who was stabbed in the neck. The Berlin prosecutors' statement adds that the victim underwent surgery, is in a medically induced coma, and is not in life-threatening condition. This terrorist attack occurred just two days before Germany's pivotal elections on Sunday. Videos shared on social media show a large number of emergency vehicles and armored police around the Holocaust Memorial. This attack took place amid pre-election polls indicating that the 'Alternative for Germany' party might secure second place after nine decades. The 'Alternative for Germany' party is referred to in the media as having 'far-right' tendencies. Germany has been the scene of a series of deliberate and terrorist attacks in recent years and months. In one of these attacks that occurred on Saturday, January 27, a 37-year-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter were killed due to severe injuries from being deliberately run over by an Afghan citizen in Munich, with over 30 others injured. Although the exact motive of the assailant in this deliberate attack is still unclear, following the incident, some politicians and political activists once again emphasized the need to reconsider the immigration policies of Western countries. About two months earlier, Germany was also the scene of another vehicle incident involving a large crowd at a Christmas market. The deadly attack by a Saudi driver on December 21 of this year on visitors at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, left at least six dead and over 200 injured.
